Built more than seventy years ago in the wake of the great depression, Swanson Pool was recently renovated. Swanson Pool Opens May 26To bring it into the 21st-century, Swanson Pool’s architects and construction managers had to revert back to the 1939 dimensions of 50-meters. The shell of the pool — also dating back to 1939 — has been replaced and a second 1-meter diving board and additional drop-slide installed. A new filtration, gutter and piping system further beef up the infrastructure, and expanded green space provides a larger buffer between thedeck area and parking lot. Locker rooms have been expanded and renovated to include a family restroom area conveniently located off the upper deck.

New water activities will also greet visitors to Swanson Pool. With visions of IndianaJones in their heads, the nimble-footed can test theirsense of balance and strength on the Lily Pad, a play area of plastic stepping stones that spans the widthof the pool at about the 4-foot mark. Dare-devils must pull themselves arm-over-arm across a braided rope canopy that is suspended overhead, while also dodging random jet streams of water bursting from two nearby water cannons. Swanson Pool also features two waterslides, lap lanes and a concession area.
