This program is very popular and most classes fill up quickly. If the class you desire is not available, please indicate a second choice or ask to be placed on a waiting list. Openings can occur or a new class could be added.

Beginner: For those just starting
Level I: One-two years prior experience in the class for
which you are registering
Level II: Two-three years prior experience in the class for which you are registering
Level III: Three-four years prior experience in the class for which you are registering
Level IV: Five years or more prior experience in the class for which you are registering
Company: Advanced level for dancers; requires instructor consent
Attire Requirments
All dancers should have hair neatly ties off of face in a ponytail or bun.
- Ballet & Lyrical Ballet: Black leotard, pink tights, and black skirt or dance shorts.
- Jazz & Jazzy Juniors: Black leotard or tank top, and black jazz pants or dance shorts.
- Tap: Black leotard or tank top, and black jazz pants or dance shorts.
- Hip Hop: Comfortable clothing; no jeans or sneakers
- Tip Toes: May wear any color leotard.
St. Charles Dance Academy classes meet at Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Avenue.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS
Ballet/Jazz
Children develop coordination and poise through both ballet and jazz. Black split sole jazz shoes and pink leather ballet shoes required.
Jazz
Jazz dancing is a popular American contemporary dance form. Learn barre and center work while incorporating stretching techniques. Black split sole jazz shoes required.
Jazzy Juniors
Learn to move rhythmically to upbeat music. Black split sole jazz shoes and black leather ballet shoes required.
Hip-Hop
Students learn high-energy moves to today’s most popular music. Skill refinement and creativity are emphasized through higher levels. Black hip hop sneaker or black split sole jazz shoe required.
Irish Step
Irish Dance class offers students the opportunity to explore the rich culture of Ireland through dance. Participants will learn traditional Irish Step and Figure Dancing. Irish Dance is enjoyed by children of every nationality.
Lyrical Ballet
Students will explore a combination of jazz and ballet with an emphasis on ballet technique, plus jazz stretches and isolations. Tan split sole jazz boot is required.
Tap/Jazz
Offers dance students an exciting taste of both jazz and tap. Dancers will develop coordination, poise and control while having fun. Black tap shoes and black split sole jazz shoes required.
Tap/Ballet
For dancers who wish to learn ballet basics and enjoy the fun of tap. Technique is emphasized through higher levels. Level I requires black tap shoes and pink leather ballet shoes. Level II and up require pink split sole ballet shoes. Level III and up require black split sole tap/jazz shoes.
Ballet/Jazz/Tap
Learn the basics of ballet, jazz and tap. Development of poise, rhythm and technique will be encouraged through higher levels. Black tap shoes, black split sole jazz shoes and pink leather ballet shoes required.
Tip Toes
Designed for the youngest dancer! Learn to move gracefully to music and to perform for an audience. Dancers must be age 2 1/2 by the first week of class. Pink leather ballet shoes required.
Company Level Student Prerequisite
Students MUST be registered in Company Ballet to participate in the Company, Jazz, Pointe, Lyrical and Tap classes. All Company levels require instructor consent.
Pointe
This 30-minute class will be devoted to working on exercises, stretches and strengthening techniques to continue the dancer’s progression in pointe (toe) shoes. Students must be very dedicated and disciplined in classical technique to assure proper muscular and skeletal development BEFORE participating in this class. Only the instructor will decide when students are ready to take part in this class and when they are ready to start wearing pointe shoes. Pointe shoes are NOT required (but are recommended) at the start of the session. DO NOT purchase pointe shoes without the instructor’s approval.
Company Ballet/Strengthening/Conditioning
This class is a requirement for all students registered in Company Tap, Lyrical, Jazz and Pointe. The class will focus on barre work, center combinations, across the floor work, technique and stretching. The strengthening portion will focus on preparing the dancers for Pointe and will help condition the dancer’s core for overall strength in all genres of dance. **Attire requirements will be STRICTLY enforced: black leotard, pink tights, pink split sole ballet shoes, black skirt (or black dance shorts), hair neatly tied off of face.
Company Jazz
This class offers the advanced dancer the opportunity to focus on technique and choreography skills with an emphasis paid to stretching and skill refinement. Black split sole jazz boots and tan split sole jazz boots are required. Hair neatly tied off of face.
Company Lyrical
Advanced students will further explore a combination of jazz and ballet techniques with an emphasis on learning to tell a story through their body movements and choreography. Tan split sole jazz boots are required. Hair neatly tied off of face.
Company Tap
Dancers will have fun learning more advanced tap technique while also focusing on refining skills and choreographing tap routines! Black split sole jazz/tap shoes are required. Hair neatly tied off of face.
