From fire trucks to dump trucks, street sweepers to tractors, Big Trucks of all kinds return to James O. Breen Community Park on Saturday, September 16 from 10 AM to 2 PM. This free program offers families a rare chance to get an up-close-and-personal view of the kinds of vehicles usually seen from a distance.
"The Big Truck Show has been a popular event," said Josh Williams, Community Center Supervisor. "It keeps the fun of summer going, even though kids are back to school."
Fun, yes, but there's still an educational component at work amid the play of the Big Truck Show. From the City of St. Charles Fire and Police Departments to private construction contractors, representatives from diverse organizations exhibiting equipment will be on hand to offer guided tours, answer questions, and even help lift kids up onto that tractor or truck seat. Children can learn about the different jobs associated with each type of truck, the vital tasks it performs for our community or an industry, and the skills needed to operate these behemoth machines.
"Kids are fascinated by big machines like these and I think it's fun for them to imagine being in control of something so enormous," said Williams.
Out-of-the-ordinary experiences such as the Big Truck Show create indelible memories for kids who will always recall the time they sat behind the steering wheel of an ambulance or climbed on the ladder of a fire truck. Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras since photo opportunities abound and Christmas cards are looming in the future! And the fun gets sweeter with representatives of Culver handing out treats.
Special thanks is extended to these onsite sponsors: Culvers, St. Charles Bank & Trust, Dayspring Pediatric Dentistry and Evolve Chiropractic.
