Ages 5-6 : Kindergarten with one year's experience or beginning 1st graders

YOUTH DANCE ACADEMY CLASS LEVELS
Beginner: For those just starting
Level I: One-two years prior experience in the class for which you are registering
Level II: Two-three years prior experience in the class for which you are registering
Level III: Four years prior experience in the class for which you are registering
Level IV: Five years or more prior experience in the class for which you are registering
Adv/Comp: Advanced level for dancers; Requires instructor consent

PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS
Babes In Ballet
This program encourages skill development and emphasizes coordination, fitness, grace and poise. Beginners, ages 3-6, will participate in barre warm-ups, appreciation of classical music, stories and creative floor movement. Black leotards, pink tights and pink leather ballet shoes required.

Tiptoes
This ballet class is designed for the youngest dancer! Ages 3-6 will learn to move gracefully to music and how to perform for an audience. Dancers must be age 3 by the first week of class. Pink leather ballet shoes required.

Ballet/Jazz/Tap
This class offers the basics of ballet, jazz and tap. Development of poise, rhythm and technique will be encouraged through higher levels. Black tap shoes, black split sole jazz shoes and pink leather ballet shoes required.

Tap/Jazz
This class offers dance students an exciting taste of both jazz and tap. Your child will develop coordination, poise and control while having fun. Black tap shoes and black split sole jazz shoes required – Level III and up require black split sole jazz/tap shoes.

Tap/Ballet
Designed for dancers who wish to learn ballet basics and enjoy the fun of tap. Technique is emphasized through higher levels. Black tap shoes and pink leather ballet shoes required. Level II and up require pink split sole ballet shoes. Level III and up require black split sole tap/jazz shoes.

Ballet/Pre-Pointe
Ballet: This class offers more advanced students the opportunity to focus on technique and barre work. Emphasis will also be paid to center combinations and stretching. Pink split sole leather ballet shoes required. Attire is strictly enforced. Black leotard, pink tights, black skirt.

Pre-Pointe: Each week, the last 15 minutes of advanced Ballet class will be devoted to working on exercises and strengthening techniques to prepare dancers for pointe (toe) shoes. Students must be very dedicated and disciplined in classical technique to assure proper muscular and skeletal development before participating in this portion of the class. Only the instructor will decide when students are ready to take part in this portion of the class and when they are ready to start wearing pointe shoes. It is required, by the instructor, to take the pre-pointe class at least one full session before wearing pointe shoes. Pointe shoes are NOT needed at the start of the session. Fitting of pointe shoes will be discussed in class. DO NOT purchase pointe shoes without instructor’s approval.

Lyrical Ballet
Students will explore a combination of jazz and ballet with an emphasis on ballet technique, plus jazz stretches and isolations. Please see instructor for shoe requirements.

Ballet/Jazz
Your child will develop coordination and poise through both ballet and jazz. Black jazz shoes and pink leather ballet shoes are required.

Jazz
Jazz dancing is a popular American contemporary dance form. This class will teach barre and centre work while incorporating stretching techniques. Black split sole jazz shoes required.

Jazzy Juniors
This ballet class is designed for the youngest dancer! Students will learn rhythmic movement, music appreciation and how to perform for an audience. Dancers must be age 3 by the first week of class. Black jazz shoes or black leather ballet slippers are required.

Hip Hop
Students learn high-energy moves to today’s most popular music. Skill refinement & creativity are emphasized through higher levels. Black Leo’s hip hop sneakers required.

Advanced Level Student Pre-requisite: Students must be registered in Advanced Ballet to participate in the Advanced Jazz class. All advanced levels require instructor consent.

Advanced/Company Ballet & Jazz Classes, please note that these two classes will be given the opportunity to participate in a dance competition in late Spring/early Summer of 2009. Participation in the competition will require additional fees and additional practice sessions, which will be explained in class. Participation in the competition is not a requirement to register for these classes but it is highly encouraged by the instructor.
