Conditions for Making Outdoor Ice
The District needs three (3) consecutive days of weather at 15° or lower to begin freezing the outdoor rinks. This cold spell must be followed by at least five (5) days of weather below 32° before the ice can be used for skating.
Ice Skating Rinks
Outdoor lighted ice skating rinks are open daily until 9pm, weather and ice conditions permitting.
For your family's safety, please use facilities only when they are open.
The following parks will be maintained as ice skating and hockey areas. There is no charge for use of any of the following facilities:
- Davis Park - Ice Skating Only
Use street parking off Fellows Street
- Timber Trails Park - Ice Skating Only
Use parking lot located on 17th Street, north of Dean Street
- Langum Park - Hockey Only
Use parking lot located on 7th Avenue
Please use the public access areas to parks in residential areas, and respect the privacy and property of the residents surrounding these parks.
ICE SAFETY

- Crack the whip and other rough games are prohibited.
- Hockey is allowed at Langum Park only.
- Hockey players should use full equipment for their own safety.
- No slap shots allowed.
Sledding
Outdoor sled hills are open daily until 9pm, weather and ice conditions permitting. For your family's safety, please use facilities only when they are open. There are no lights at either park.
Sledding and snowboarding are not permitted in Pottawatomie Park.
The following parks will be maintained as sled hill areas. There is no charge for use of any of the following facilities:
- Langum Park
Sled off 7th Avenue facing Route 25
- Timber Trails Park
Sled off 17th Street
Snowshoe Rentals
Don't sneer at the snow - get out and enjoy it!
The Park District has 14 pairs of plastic snowshoes available for rent to individuals, families or groups. Rentals are available from Hickory Knolls Discovery Center.
Weekday rentals are $2/pair. Pick up by 4pm one day and return by 10am the following day.
Weekend rentals are $5/pair. Pick up by 4pm on Friday or Saturday and return by 10am on Tuesday.
